High Winds Bring Bad News for Wausau Spectators at July 4th Celebration

The Wausau Jaycees didn't talk with us, but on their facebook page they said high winds and the possible chance of burning embers was the cause of their cancellation at Marathon Park.

The 4th of July celebration put on by the Wausau Area Jaycees was leading up to its fireworks display to celebrate our nations birth. Other shows throughout the area went on without any problems.

The display in Mosinee shoots their fireworks off over the Wisconsin River. They are loaded on pontoons and taken to a safe distance where houses or onlookers won’t be hurt. Mosinee makes sure that their top priority is the community.

Tammy Campo, Executive Director at the Mosinee Chamber of Commerce said, “We go out and we make sure we set a perimeter. It is taken care of by our fire department during the show and while we set up. This way no one can enter the perimeter or the area and get hurt.”

The planning for their show starts months in advance. The chamber of commerce committee meets to map out the area where they will shoot off the fire works usually 2-3 months before the celebration. They have to make sure that the perimeter has not changed so that nothing can be damaged.
