One Merrill union group is taking advantage of the great weather to not only celebrate some small summer holidays, but also help out several charities.
"It is National Hot Dog Day! It's also Vanilla Ice Cream Cone Day and the reason that we picked help, is because how many years ago, the Beatles released their single "Help," said Local 6 Vice President Valorie Nelson. "That's actually how this whole conversation started with our membership."
The entire day Wednesday was filled with outdoor activities like kayaking, pontooning, swimming and rocking out to music. There were of course donated hot dogs and ice cream to celebrate the food holidays. All the proceeds will be split evenly between the Lincoln County Humane Society, local food pantries, and the American Red Cross. Nelson said they're all organizations that affect Local 6's members.
