Handiable Hopes to Ride Again

Updated: Sun 8:43 AM, Jul 22, 2012

A man attempting to travel from Stevens Point to California in his wheelchair hopes to make another go at it in the spring.

Matt Kluender and the Handiable crew made their original attempt in June but were forced to cut the trip short after an accident in Cameron, MO. A woman allegedly ran into the trailer while looking at her GPS. The accident destroyed Kluender's trailer and one of his wheelchairs.

But the slight detour hasn't trumped his spirit.

"We want to drive down to Missouri where we stopped," says Kluender, "and then continue the trip from that location."

As for the accident, Kluender says he doesn't harbor any bad feelings towards the woman.

"I don't, but I'm very heartbroken that somebody could have their eyes off the road for that long."

Kluender says mostly everyone he met on the road was friendly towards him and the crew.

They hope to take off from Missouri in May 2013.
