A 32-year old man is lucky to be alive after he fell and became trapped in a trench he was digging.

It happened around 5 p.m. Wednesday evening at a farm along County Road I in the Town of Franzen; near Wittenberg.

Paramedics and firefighters responded to the scene after the water irrigation trench collapsed. It took crews nearly two hours to free the man.

Luckily he was able to escape with only minor bruises and didn't need to be taken to the hospital.

The victim's uncle says that the rescue was made possible because of quick action on the part of friends, neighbors, and first responders.

First responders are being paged to a property in the Town of Franzen, near Wittenberg after report that man became trapped in an underground hole.

Wittenberg First responders, trench-rescue members, and a medical helicopter have been requested to respond.

Dispatch has be notified first responders are able to get oxygen to the man.

The incident was reported around 5:20 p.m.
