A Lincoln County woman's gut feeling prevented her from being scammed out $1,200.
According to a news release from the Sheriff's Department, the woman received a call from a person who a said he was her grandson and was in jail in Mexico.
A second person got on the phone and claimed to be from the Embassy and provided the woman with instructions on how to “bail” out her grandson. The woman wired over $1,200 to the fake grandson and was just about to call and give the four digit pin needed to collect the funds when she instead called the Sheriff’s Office.
A Deputy responded to the woman’s home and was able to ensure her grandson was safe and not in jail. The Deputy was also able to reach Western Union who refunded the woman’s money.
