GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay is the latest city in Wisconsin to consider banning cell phones for drivers.
Alderman Jerry Wiezbiskie says he's almost been hit several times by someone talking on their cell phone while driving, including his trip to City Hall Monday night.
Wiezbiskie is proposing an ordinance banning handheld use of electronic devices while driving. Violators would face a $50 fine.
WLUK-TV reports the majority of Protection and Welfare Committee members say the matter should be handled at the state level, so there isn't a patchwork of local ordinances.
The City Council will vote in three weeks.
Wausau passed a similar ordinance earlier this year. Signs at the city limits notify drivers of the ban.
