Madison – Governor Scott Walker declared a state of emergency Friday for Dane, Grant, and Green counties in response to storms and tornadoes that impacted southern Wisconsin earlier this week.

“The damage caused by the tornadoes and severe storms, which hit southern Wisconsin has the full attention and resources of the State,” Governor Walker said. “I have instructed state agencies and the Wisconsin National Guard to aide those affected by the storms as they recover and rebuild. I thank Wisconsin Emergency Management, the Wisconsin National Guard, and all state agencies for their coordinated response to this emergency.”

Earlier this week, Governor Walker toured Platteville and Verona to survey the damage and meet with tornado victims and local officials. Six tornadoes touched down in Dane, Green, and Grant counties causing millions of dollars in damage.

Governor Walker directed state agencies to aide those affected by the storms and called the Wisconsin National Guard to state active duty, as Adjutant General Donald Dunbar deems necessary, to assist local authorities in the recovery efforts. Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Wisconsin Emergency Management have been assisting with response and recovery efforts.
