Usually when the governor comes to town, it sparks a debate on some controversial policy.
Today, he was touting something conservatives and liberals can agree on.
The Take Your Legislator to Work campaign is designed to bring awareness to the importance of hiring workers with physical and mental disabilities.
People with disabilities are often some of the most dedicated and hard working employees in the job market, but getting employers to realize the potential is not always an easy task.
That is why Walker and other politicians have been touring the state meeting disabled workers and sharing stories in hopes of inspiring business owners to hire members of this growing community.
At his stop at the Red Eye Brewery in Wausau today, Walker met employee Thao Pao Xiong.
Xiong has worked in the kitchen for the past three years and his bosses say he is one of the best employees at the restaurant.
The Governor says the goal of this awareness campaign is to let employers know that there are countless willing workers like Thao available and ready to work.
" Red Eye and other companies like this across the state, big or small alike, are looking at people's abilities not their disabilities. That is one of the keys." Gov. Walker said.
The legislator tour coincides with National Disability Employment Awareness month.
