As you look for the best gas prices in town, there’s no doubt many of you have a little sticker shock. Gas prices nationwide are up. In Wisconsin, the average price is $3.93, and it’s headed upwards.
Heading into Memorial Day Weekend, AAA predicts 34.8 million travelers will journey away from home.
That might sound like a lot, but that number decreased from 2012, and the reason is because of the price at the pump.
Last year on Memorial Day Weekend, 35.1 million people traveled at least 50 miles from home according to AAA statistics.
The national average for unleaded then was $3.64, now its $3.68. Wisconsin’s average is much higher, sitting at a whopping $3.93 per gallon for unleaded.
AAA agent, Brent Dabler says you can blame the refineries and weather causing your pocket book to be a little lighter this holiday weekend.
“Last month or so has not been kind as far as weather related issues that have been going on. There have been unexpected and expected refinery shutdowns that have caused the price up-tick, plus the switch to the summer blend of gasoline.”
You’ll have to shell out a little more money this year to fill up, as AAA predicts 89% of the population will travel by car this Memorial Day Weekend.
