Chances are your garbage can is probably pretty full this week after gift openings will family and friends.

The La Crosse Police Department says the heaping empty boxes could be signal for would-be criminals of what's inside your home.

During an interview with WKBT-TV, Police Sergeant Randy Rank says, “You are advertising you got the new 55-inch LED TV or a new computer and they see an opportunity.”

He says to wait until the day your garbage is picked up to take the boxes out.
