The Wausau Center Mall is a shopping destination for people all over northcentral Wisconsin, but its losing two big name stores.
Hollister and Gap are planning to close their doors inside the mall before the end of January.
Carl Landis, Regional Director of Marketing for CBL Properties they hope to fill the soon-to-be vacant store fronts. "Buckle, who is currently at the shopping center, is moving into the Hollister location to build a new permanent store there. As to replace Gap, we're currently, aggressively marketing that space and working on perspective tenants to go there and as soon as we have those signed up, we can announce them,” he explained.
Both stores bring customers to not just the mall, but to Wausau. That means if you're a regular customer of both those store, you'll soon have to drive to Appleton or Eau Claire.
Landis remained positive about closing. "We're constantly working to re-merchandise the mall and make sure the tenant mix is appropriate for the area. We still have stores that shoppers want to come to. So, these closings actually give us an opportunity to do that with the space available. So, it's a good win-win for the Wausau area."
Gap did not return our calls regarding their reasons for leaving the mall. Hollister said in a statement it is part of their policy to close under performing stores.
