The Wisconsin Valley Fair is celebrating its 146th and gates opened Tuesday afternoon. Even if you're on a budget, there are plenty of options to bring the whole family to the fair.

Your first tip -- know the best time to come.

"Ticket prices before noon are $5, $9 after noon," Maria Budnik, Fair Administrator said.

So what about parking? It'll cost you $6 to park on the grounds, or $18 for a season pass. But to save some money, you may just try your luck in the surrounding neighborhoods.

You can also bring a box of cereal to the gate, the Fair has teamed up with Peyton's Promise for the second year in a row.

"We are collecting cereal boxes throughout the entire week," Maria said, "anybody who brings in a cereal box full of cereal, can get a coupon card to use with vendors at our fair."

Once you get inside the grounds, plan ahead before waiting in lines for rides. Each day has wristband specials, with unlimited rides for young and old.

"Get a wristband and you're good to go, they can go on the same ride over and over again, or they can ride unlimited rides they want to ride," Maria said, "it really is the best way to go, and then you don't have to deal with the tickets."

If you're not a thrill seeker, there is still plenty to do and see for free.

"We have our extreme K-9 stunt dog show, and that is free every single day," Maria said,"the grandstand is free with admission to the fair, so come and enjoy some of those events."

A new way to save this year, is by taking selfies -- yes, selfies. The idea start when the fair teamed up with Wausau West's DECA.

"We just want everybody to tag their selfie pictures wherever they're at," Maria said, "on a ride, entertainment, in the barns, #WVF14, and there's incentives everyday to win."

Just upload the pictures to Facebook, and follow the Wisconsin Valley Fair page to see the day's winners.

"Anything from ride wristbands to demo derby tickets, I think we might even have a couple backstage passes," Maria said.
