Imagine running three marathons in three days. That's how former Marines and best friends Shannon Anker and Chad Hintz describe their trek from Rib Mountain to Lambeau Field.
The duo are co-founders of Old Dogs That Care, an organization that raises money to send care packages to our troops overseas. A cause that is very personal to both of them. Both Anker and Hintz served in over 17 different countries during their time in the service.
The former Devil Dogs said that every time they received a letter or package from home it made their day. They add it was especially touching to receive packages from total strangers. It's that memory that keeps them going when the journey to Titletown gets tough.
"Care packages brings a little bit of home to the guys that are missing home right now. They're wishing they were here watching the Packer game. We hope it brings a little bit of home into their lives and that's what keeps us going no matter what the weather is like," Anker told NewsChannel 7.
Anker and Hintz plan to walk up to 18 hours a day wearing 80lbs packs. A trip that will take 3 days to complete and a tremendous toll on their bodies. But they say the pain is well worth it.
They hope to raise over $10,000 for care packages, as each one costs $55 to make. If you would like to help their cause, you can send donations to The Old Dogs That Care at 160 Grant St. Pulaski, WI 54162. They request you make checks payable to the Military Support Group.
The two should arrive at Lambeau Field around noon on Sunday. They are inviting everyone to join them at Stadium View for a celebration.
