Foreign Exchange Student Marks First Memorial Day

For many of us who have been blesses to grow up in these United States, celebrating Memorial Day is an annual tradition. From parades to concerts and even motorcycle rallies the ways we celebrate seems second nature. But to someone visiting our country, they're mind blowing.

Jana Messerschmidt is an exchange student from Germany studying at Mosinee High School. This was her first Memorial Day in the United States.

"I think it's important to honor the people who fought for you and for your liberty and for all, so that you can live in peace," Messerschmidt says.

She adds that they have similar celebrations honoring those who fought for their freedom in Germany, but says she's never seen anything like Monday's parade and ceremony in Mosinee. Messerschmidt was especially impressed by the Mosinee High School Marching Band's performance.
