More than 200 golfers showed up for the 10th annual Fore a cure event at the Wausau Country Club Monday afternoon.
The event started in honor of the organizer's grandmother and is used to raise funds for breast cancer prevention at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation.
This year's event was the largest they've ever had, Fore a cure founder Bill Fonti said. This year's attendance and donations pushed past a record of $1.1 million dollars raised.
"It's really flowing quite well," Fonti said. "We're playing some eight-some,s and it's great. People are having a lot of fun. We're going to raise today $160,000 to $170,000.
Fonti said the money helps provide Marshfield Clinic with mobile units, which are units that can go to women who may not visit a hospital for a mammogram.
He said in 2012, more than 12,000 women used the units.
Fonti also said the most important thing, other than raising funds to support research, is early detection.
