As influenza season peaks in Wisconsin, Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital will be restricting visitation to the Birth Center and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

These limits include:
Children younger than 18 will not be allowed to visit. This includes siblings of the new baby.

Only 1 to 2 support persons will be allowed in Labor and Delivery; these are the only 1 to 2 individuals that can visit the new mom and baby during the current hospitalization (such as the father, and/or listed relative or friend).

These limits will be re-evaluated in mid-February.

A hospital spokesperson says changes in the immune system, heart, and lungs during pregnancy make pregnant women more prone to severe illness from flu as well as hospitalizations and even death. Pregnant woman with flu also have a greater chance for serious problems for their unborn baby, including premature labor and delivery.
