Over the Counter Flu Meds Selling Fast
Finding Flu Meds Might Be Hard
It's the last thing you want to see when you are at the pharmacy searching for something that will make the sick feeling go away -- an empty shelf.
However, that is the case at many pharmacies in our area, including the Weston Target. As of Thursday afternoon, the pharmacy has been sold out of many products, including Theraflu.
Pharmacist Keith Hoehn says they receive new shipments of medicine every day, but because the outbreak has been so bad, they've been selling quickly.
Best-sellers include nasal decongestants and multi-symptom cold relievers. Generic brands are selling just as well as the name brands.
"We have a lot of people that are getting the flu and they're finding that they're not really prepared for the symptoms that the flu has been eliciting this year," says Hoehn.
There is another option if you can't find what you're looking for at the pharmacy and that is herbal remedies.
"It seems that the flu just gets stronger and stronger and stronger," says Dr. Betty-Ann Peters, owner of Wausau Wellness Center. "We look at the quality of the product that we have and that makes a big difference in the way it's going to work."
There are also the old home remedies for the flu, such as drinking lots of fluids, getting lots of rest, and gargling with salt water to help rid the throat of mucus.
