First Major Snowfall Expected This Weekend

It's expected to be a busy weekend on Wisconsin roads as Christmas shoppers are out and about and fans travel to and return home from the Packer game.

It's also the first weekend northcentral Wisconsin will get taste of significant snowfall. The Department of Transportation is offering these tips to keep you and your family safe.

  • Plan ahead
  • Drive at a safe and legal speed for conditions
  • (The 55 or 65 mph speed limit is a maximum speed for times when conditions are good/ideal, not for when roads are slippery and visibility is reduced.)

  • Drive alert and sober
  • Always wear seatbelts
  • Chief Meteorologist Mike Breunling says areas north of Highway 10 are expected to received 4 to 6 inches, while areas south of Highway 10 could received 3 to 5 by Sunday evening. Snowfall is expected to begin around midnight Saturday.

Travelers are encouraged to check winter road conditions before leaving home by calling 5-1-1 or visiting 511wi.gov.
