With the World Championships for Canoe and Kayaking in Wausau, the culmination of a years work is coming to a close. With so many athletes here, you can smell the pursuit of medals and an excitement in the air for the future to come.
For Rich Powell, that dream has come true with a bronze medal for the United States. He is considered to be the 3rd best in the World at this point. Who knew that since 1974 this event would grow to its size and hold one of the best canoe kayakers in the world.
With over 530 Americans being named for the Olympic team this week, two of those Americans are here for the kayak canoe races. These athletes are preparing for their masterful attempt at a gold medal.
Joe Jacobi, the CEO of USA Canoe and Kayak told us, “As an organization we are less that two weeks out from London now so we have a couple of athletes here in Wausau that are putting final touches on preparations for their races in London.”
With a city like Wausau full of champions, who knows what young child is watching. Waiting to take their place along the athletes and Olympians we’ve seen here today.
