Many parents throughout Marathon County tonight have peace of mind knowing their kids are closer to being prepared for school.
Notebooks, pencils, and more were packed into a backpacks and given out as a part of the Fill a Backpack program today in Wausau.
It's put on by the Workplace Volunteer Council who says this year more than 26 hundred packs were handed out.
The backpacks are provided to students for free, thanks to donations from businesses and community members.
"It's just amazing the donations that this county has given to this Fill a Backpack program and we are very, very thankful," says co-chair Rhonda Karau.
Karau says that next year they are considering to help more families in the county.
An hour before opening this morning lines for the backpacks stretched as far as four city blocks.
