A field fire in Pittsville has been extinguished after burning more than 34 acres Saturday afternoon.
Pittsville Fire Chief Jerry Minor says they received a call around 1:30 PM. When they arrived the fire was expansive. It burned over a marshy area and then moved to an open field and finally a pine plantation. Luckily, no trees were damaged. The trees were recently trimmed and the fire moved across the forest floor. No structures were damaged and no one was injured.
Pittsville was assisted by two other area departments and the DNR.
Chief Minor said the fire was caused by burnt debris. He add even though burning permits are being issued right now, you should look to the conditions before burning and wait for greener grass if possible.
