Jeffrey Trevino, 37, is charged with felony second-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of his wife, Kira Trevino Steger. He remains behind bars in the Ramsey County Jail in Minnesota. Bail has been set at $1 million.

The criminal complaint laying out the charges says although Kira Trevino Steger's body has not been found, she is presumed dead because of the large amount of blood that has been found in the investigation of her disappearance.

Through interviews with family and friends of Kira, police learned she and Jeffrey Trevino had been having marital problems, and Kira had been talking about moving out of her home with Jeffrey.

Jeffrey Trevino reported Kira missing to Police Sunday, February 24th. He said he had last seen her 8:30 Friday morning, after the two had a 'date night' Thursday. Police discovered Kira's bank card had last been used at a gas station shortly after 2:00 am Friday. Surveillance video showed a male filling Kira's car with gas and driving away around that time.

Monday morning, Kira's car was located in the back corner of the Mall of America Parking lot. When the vehicle was ordered towed, the tow operator saw blood around the trunk of the car. Police also found a bloody trunk liner a short distance from the car. Surveillance video from the Mall of America showed the vehicle arriving around 9:45 Friday morning. A male threw a trunk liner from the vehicle, and later left in a cab. That cab dropped the male off near the couple's home.

Investigators then searched the couple's home, where they found freshly washed towels and a sweatshirt freshly washed that Jeffrey had been wearing on the 21st. There were also bleach-stained towels in the kitchen, a mop and bucket in the hallway, and a carpet cleaner. A blood splatter was found in the bedroom, and later testing identified 'copious' amounts of blood throughout the bedroom, kitchen, and main hallway.

A family friend of Kira Trevino Steger says the public is welcome to attend a prayer vigil in the missing woman's honor on Friday, March 1 from 5-6 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church. The church is located at 6601 Alderson Street in Weston.

St. Paul police say Jeffery Trevino is the one who called officers to report his wife missing on Friday. Now he’s in jail on suspicion of homicide.

Investigators say they found evidence in the couple’s home on Iowa Avenue in St. Paul that led to the arrest. Police also say they found evidence in Kira Trevino Stegers’s car.

Jeffery Trevino must be formally charged by 10 a.m. Thursday or be released from custody if the county attorney doesn't file for an extension to keep him in jail.
