SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities in southeastern Michigan say a family dog attacked and killed its owners' 2 1/2 month-old baby.
WDIV-TV says the attack happened about 11:40 a.m. Sunday at a home in Oakland County's Springfield Township, about 30 miles north-northwest of Detroit.
Authorities say the baby boy's 18-year-old uncle was watching the baby when the dog jumped onto a couch and attacked the boy's head and throat.
They say the baby's 26-year-old father was injured while prying open the dog's jaws. They say the baby was taken to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Genesee County's Grand Blanc Township.
The baby then was airlifted to William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, where he died.
Authorities plan to euthanize the dog, a 3 1/2-year-old Catahoula hound.
