Fair Rides Inspected for Safety

The gates at the Lincoln County Fair are open and ready to welcome visitors. Not only are the animals at the fair a huge draw, but so are the rides. Fair organizers and carnival operators are doing everything they can to make sure your ride is a safe one.

Like many parents, Rachel Grieffe and Bryanna Graham are excited to enjoy the fair with their kids. While fun is all the kids can think about, safety remains these moms number one concern.

"I think it's just something internally that a mother always has," Grieffe said. "But we just kind of let it go and run its course and hopefully everything goes good."

Lincoln County Fair President Dale Christiansen says there's no reason parents should worry.

"Mr. Ed's has an outstanding safety record. We're very confident with the rides we've got on the grounds."

Mr. Ed's Magical Midways LLC, the fair's carnival company, inspects their rides daily. That's on top of the yearly inspection required by the state. In fact, when our cameras visited Thursday state inspectors were there making sure the rides were up to state safety standards.

General Manager of Mr. Ed's Lisa Weiland explained the inspection process.

"Just kind of like what you would do when you're inspecting your car for maintenance. You make sure that everything is there, that there are no missing pieces and the nuts and bolts and everything is where it's suppose to be."

While every ride at the Lincoln County Fair is inspected for safety, ride operators say parents play a very important role in keeping their kids safe as well.

"It's called rider responsibility," Weiland told NewsChannel 7. "You have a responsibility as a rider to obey the rules, follow the safety instructions of the operator, and everybody should have a great time."
