EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- An Eau Claire man will be committed to a mental institution after admitted he killed his neighbor last year.

James E. Olson pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony count of first-degree intentional homicide.

Judge William Gabler agreed with the prosecutor and Olson's attorney and issued a lifelong commitment for Olson after finding him not guilty by mental disease or defect.

Two psychologists who examined Olson believe he suffered from mental illnesses at the time of the killing.

The Leader-Telegram reports Olson will be under the custody of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. He will be placed in a state institution immediately.

Olson was accused of killing 39-year-old Paul Oberle with a crowbar June 9 after Oberle returned home from working the overnight shift at a grocery store.
