Eating on the cheap doesn't mean you have to cheat yourself out of healthy options. A recent list compiles the 20 healthiest foods for less than one dollar per serving. If you follow it, you can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars a year and become healthier in the process.

Shopping the perimeter of the grocery store is where you'll find the foods on the list. They are:

OATS
EGGS
KALE
POTATOES
APPLES
NUTS
BANANAS
GARBANZO BEANS
BROCCOLI
WATERMELON
WILD RICE
BEETS
BUTTERNUT SQUASH
SARDINES
SPINACH
TOFU
WHOLE GRAIN PASTA
MILK
PUMPKIN SEEDS
COFFEE

You will save money and be healthier if you're willing to dedicate a little more time in the kitchen.
