LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- Members of a heroin task force are running into roadblocks with a plan for prescription drug disposal in the La Crosse area.

La Crosse Tribune reports the county's heroin task force had hoped to install permanent drop boxes in secure locations for people to dump old drugs. The task force has said prescription drug abuse is tied to heroin use.

Co-chairman Mike Desmond says current laws present obstacles to setting up drop boxes, as do new rules the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency could roll out next month.

Task force members noted prescription drugs can't just be tossed in the trash because they could be found and used.

Pharmacist Loren Carrell says one way to destroy them is to put the drugs in a laundry detergent container and add bleach.
