A 16-year-old driver who hit a 7-year-old child with his car and fled the scene has been issued three traffic citations.

The teen, who we will not name since he is a minor, was cited with inattentive driving, failure to notify police of an accident, and hit and run causing injury.

Marathon County Sheriff's Deputies say on November 15, the teen was driving on Robin Lane and turned left onto Highway R in Rib Mountain. At the same time, a crossing guard was escorting a group of children through the intersection. The driver struck one of the children and drove away. The child was was not seriously injured, but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The driver was found about four hours later.
