UPDATE: Fri 7:55 AM, Jul 04, 2014
The Fourth of July has already been a busy day for authorities around Wausau. Two crashes, including a hit and run, were reported within minutes of each other early Friday morning.

Around 2 a.m. Friday, authorities say a driver heading north on First Street hit a car heading west on Scott Street, near the base of the Dudley Tower. At latest word, Wausau Police officers questioned a man in connection to the hit and run.

The driver also took out a traffic signal and fire hydrant before heading north. No injuries were reported. An witness who saw the crash, called police and followed the car.

"I was a little nervous not knowing who it was or what he might do," the witness told NewsChannel 7. "Which is why I did use my open carry in a reasonable manner respecfully. My motto is i'd rather have it not need it than need it not have it.."

A tow truck en route to the scene was involved in another crash at the intersection of Scott Street and Fifth Street. A 19-year old driver was arrested after the second crash and is charged with an absolute sobriety violation.
