Donations Needed to Restore WWI Memorial in Merrill

Donations are now being collected to restore a recently discovered WWI memorial that had been hidden away for decades.

The project coordinator tells NewsChannel 7, the Merrill Historical Society found 3'x7' bronze plaque in storage. The marker lists the names of Lincoln County Veterans who died in World War I.

The plaque will be placed next to Merrill’s Cenotaph Park Memorial, located on the corner of Highway 64 and North Prospect Street.

The plans also include paver stones engraved with the names of additional local WWI veterans who died in service plus a granite dedication stone and walk of honor.

A dedication ceremony is tentatively planned for Memorial Day contingent upon the $2,500 that still needs to be raised.
