A Wood County family is praising their four-legged hound as a hero after he alerted them to a fire in their home early Tuesday morning.

By the time firefighters arrived at the Saratoga home around 3:30 a.m. it was already engulfed in flames.

But thanks to Flash, the family of five made it safe outside.

"He's always been very alert to sense and smells. I don't know if i even would have got out”, explained Flash's owner Jesse Sweet.

The house is a total loss and the cause is still under investigation.

The Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.
