The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department is asking residents to be aware of changing temperatures as ice conditions on lakes and streams can vary this time of year.

They say on Sunday around 11:30 a.m., dispatch received a call saying a dog had broken through the ice on the Wisconsin River at the County Road E bridge, southwest of Irma.

Shortly after they received another call saying the dog's owner, who had been attempting to rescue the dog using a duck boat, also broke through the ice.

Fortunately, the dog and its owner were able to make it to land safety without the aid of rescue crews.
