Ditch the Minivan... Hit the Sidewalks Instead!

Updated: Wed 8:09 AM, Oct 03, 2012

Hundreds of kids all across the area got up... Got out... And got moving Wednesday morning.

October 3rd is International Walk to School day.

More than 3,300 schools across America are taking part, including many in Wausau, and all around North Central Wisconsin.

In fact, Wausau is using some money they recently got a grant to promote healthy lifestyles, to give small prizes to kids who walk or bike to school.

Since it started back in 2007, Walk to School day had been about reinforcing the benefits of more physical activity, fewer car trips, a cleaner environment, and getting out there and connecting with your neighbors.

While it may be unrealistic for you to be able to walk or bike with your kids to school every single day, the hope is that you'll have so much fun doing it this morning that you'll want to continue walking and biking as a family, maybe after dinner or on the weekends.
