The demolition of CenterPoint Mall in Stevens Point has officially begun. What the Mayor of Stevens Point said took five and a half years to come to fruition will now take five and a half weeks to change the look of downtown.
Contractors have gutted the interior already. And now it's time for the outside, as they get ready to re-build 3rd Street.
Despite the construction, this demolition won't effect how you get around Stevens Point. In fact, Mayor Halverson says it will make travel easier.
"This is going to give them new access in and out of their downtown. Which, in essence, was severed when the mall itself was originally built," Mayor Halverson told NewsChannel 7.
Mid-State Technical College is set to move into the building that used to house JCPenney. The old Dunham's Sports building has been sold to a company looking to fill the space with retail stores.
