The deadline to license pets in the City of Wausau is quickly approaching. It's March 31st.
The Executive Director of the Humane Society of Marathon County, Mary Kirlin, says getting your furry friends licensed doesn't just benefit your local municipality, it benefits you too.
"It's an important thing to do besides just following the law because it does help to get those animals back safely to the owner," said Kirlin.
The fee to license sterilized pets in Wausau is $10 and for unsterilized pets it's $20. If you don't license them it could cost you even more in the form of late fees and fines.
Kirlin says aside from licensing, you should also get your pets micro chipped. HSMC offers that service by appointment for $10 plus tax.
If you don't live in Wausau, be sure to check with your municipality on rules and regulations for licensing.
