DOJ: Police, City Leaders Not Involved in Waushara Co. Drug Bust

The Department of Justice has released a statement regarding several recent drug-related arrests in Waushara County after inquires from the public and the media about who may have been involved.

Wednesday, a DOJ spokesperson sent out an email with the following statement from Dave Matthews, Administrator of the Division of Criminal Investigation within the Wisconsin Department of Justice:

“Recently, DCI has assisted in a series of drug investigations in Waushara County leading to a number of arrests. No elected officials or police officers have been arrested as a result of those investigations and DCI is not aware of any evidence that any elected official or police officer was involved in those crimes.”

The Waushara County Sheriff's Department had previously released these news releases:

On Monday, August 5, 2013 special agents from the Department of Justice -- Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), working with Lake Winnebago MEG, Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force and Waushara County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at a residence in the City of Wautoma. As a result of this search warrant four(4) persons were arrested and the following items were seized
• Marijuana
• Drug Paraphernalia
• US currency
• Ecstasy/MDMA
• Firearm

The incident will be referred to the Waushara County District Attorney’s Office for review of potential criminal charges. The incident remains under investigation by DCI and the Sheriff’s Office.

A second release was also sent out with suspect names:

On Monday, August 5, 2013 in conjunction with the sale of illegal drugs a search warrant was executed on Center Street in the City of Wautoma. As a result of this incident agents from the Central Wisconsin Task Force, Winnebago County Drug Task Force and Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation as well as Deputies from Waushara County Sheriff's Office took 4 individuals into custody.

1. Ryan Renner-22 yoa-Wautoma:
6 Drug related felonies
1 Drug related misdemeanor

2. Tyler Anklam-20 yoa-Wautoma:
Released pending further investigation

3. Taylor Campbell-20 yoa-Sheboygan:
Probation Hold
1 Drug related felony
1 Misdemeanor Obstructing

4. Christopher Bartz-22 yoa-Wautoma:
Probation Hold
Further investigation pending

The incident remains under investigation by DCI and the Waushara County Sheriff's Office.
