This time of year many people like to spread holiday joy, and some middle school musicians got the chance to do just that and get a little practice on their instruments at the same time.
Students from DC Everest Middle School performed holiday songs in the cafeteria of Saint Clare's Hospital Tuesday. Their instructors say it gives them a chance to give back.
"They love playing their instruments and to be able to share the music that they can play," said band director, Lisa Phalen, "and to be able to play well enough to come share that with the community is very special to them, so they're doing something they can do well, and sharing it with other people."
"It is their type of community service," said band director, Brenda Zimmerman, "a lot of kids will go out and do community service, and what better way at the holidays than to play their music."
The 7th graders have only been playing music for about a year, and they already have some plans for concerts next year.
