With the school year now in full swing, drivers need to be extra caution when they are out on the roads. Crossing guards are in place throughout the Wausau area to make sure that no children ever get injured on their way to school.
While crossing guards take great pride in keeping kids safe, they can't do it alone. They want to make sure that all drivers are extra attentive and always remember to slow down whenever they are in a school zone.
Crossing guards who monitor busy Stewart Avenue in Wausau say they always remain focused.
"We have to pay attention to the traffic and we have to pay attention to the cars and the kids. If we see the kids coming across, our heads are always turning to watch for other people" says guard Todd Seliskar.
Police monitor all school zones throughout the year to make sure no one is speeding. Fines for speeding double whenever you are caught in a school zone.
