Crews Tear Down Blighted Home in Wausau

A house located at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Thomas Street is no more. Crews spent much of Wednesday morning tearing down the house. It's one of three blighted homes being razed in the city.

Governor Walker announced in August that one million dollars was being awarded for the demolition of blighted residential properties across the state. As it turns out, it's not an easy job for crews to tear them down. "You definitely want to know where your wall structures are in the house so that you can pick it apart room by room basically," said Richard Wendlick with the City of Wausau.

He says that way the house doesn't fall down all at once. The hope is that by tearing down these homes, it will raise the property value of those nearby. There's no word yet on what the empty space will be used for.
