UPDATE: No One Injured When Truck Falls Through Ice Near Hatley

Two people were uninjured Thursday afternoon when their Suburban went through the ice on Pike Lake in Hatley.

Around 1:30 pm, crews were paged to the Pike Lake Resort after a witness saw the SUV break through the ice and was unsure if anyone was inside. Investigators soon discovered the two people inside the SUV were able to escape the submerging vehicle and make it back to shore.

A DNR Warden says the ice was only about 6'' thick were the vehicle went through. The lake is estimated to be 30' deep at that spot. The SUV is now at the bottom of the lake and the owners will have 30 days to have it removed.

Our reporter on scene says two other vehicles were on the lake at the time the SUV went through, however the ice was about 2'' thicker in those areas, and those vehicles are much smaller than the one that went through.

The Warden also said speed may have been a factor in the SUV breaking through.
