UPDATE: Wed 11:25 AM, May 7, 2014

A Stratford area couple is devastated after losing their barn, and some important gear inside it, to a fire.

It was reported at about 10 a.m. Wednesday on the 1700 block of Rock Road, which is just northeast of Stratford.

“When I came out of my house, it was fully engulfed,” Explains neighbor, Amy Kramas.

Kramas called the owners when she saw the barn on fire. The only thing left is the couple's six horses and four barn kittens that escaped.

Kramas says she thinks the lightning struck the barn causing the fire since her breakers were out at her home just feet away.

Chief Bill Griesbach of the Stratford Fire Department also said lightning from Wednesday's storm is the cause.

Flames and smoke destroyed more than 450 bales of hay and thousands of dollars worth of horse horse bridles, saddles and equipment.
