UPDATE: Spencer Man Killed in Clark Co. Train vs. Van Crash

UPDATE: 6/18 at 3:11 p.m.

The Clark County Sheriff's Department says the victim in Tuesday's crash is Charles Podbelsek, of Spencer.

Initial investigation indicates Podbelsek's van was eastbound on Century Rd approaching the railroad crossing. Investigation showed Podbelsek did not stop at the stop sign at the crossing, striking a southbound Canadian National train.

The Caravan was thrown south of the crossing where it landed on its roof. Podbelsek was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

UPDATE: 6/18 at 11:42 p.m

Clark County Sheriff's Jim Backus said neighbors says the train did sound its horn before Tuesday's fatal crash.

Our reporter at the scene says the crossing does not have train crossing safety gate, but does have a stop sign and railroad crossing sign.

Sheriff Backus says the victim's name will be released in a new release Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE: 6/18 at 10:28 a.m.

An 81-year-old man has died following vehicle vs train accident Tuesday morning in Unity.

The Clark County Sheriff's Department says the driver was the sole occupant in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's name will not be released until his family can be notified.

Investigators believe the man was driving south on Century Road when he was struck by the train. Deputies says the accident is particularly sad as the man was being followed by his daughter who witnessed the crash.

EMS crews from Clark County have been paged to respond to a vehicle versus train accident on Century Road east of Highline Avenue in the Town of Unity.

The accident happened around 9:14 a.m.
