UPDATE 12/15/13 at 6:22 p.m.:

Fire officials say they are ruling out mischievous conduct as the cause of a fire at the Days Inn hotel in Wausau Saturday evening.

The fire started on the second floor of the hotel just after 8:00 p.m. Fire crews tell NewsChannel 7 the fire started in an area called a service chase, or the space between two adjacent rooms where wiring and plumbing are housed.

More than two dozen guests were evacuated to nearby hotels. No serious injuries were reported. Fire officials say several guests were treated at the scene and declined to be transported to area hospitals.

Firefighters battled the blaze until nearly 5:00 a.m. Wausau Battalion Chief Mark Krueger says the damage was mostly contained to the west side of the two-story building. He says the rest of the 120-room hotel only shows smoke and water damage.

Crew remained on scene for the majority of the day Sunday to make sure the fire did not reignite.
