UPDATE: Mon 9:57 AM, Jul 22, 2013
A motorcyclist is facing drunk driving charges after he's accused of causing a crash Sunday evening in Portage County.
According to a news release from the Portage County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened on County Highway W east of Taft Avenue near Bancroft, around 7:40 p.m.
Investigators says the cyclist failed to negotiate curve and drove into the ditch. The motorcycle overturned and the cyclist was thrown from the bike.
Originally, the operator indicated there was a female passenger with him, but after a search conducted by Bancroft First Responders, Bancroft Fire Department, Spirit Air and a concerned citizen who entered the pond, it was determined that the female was not in the area.
Investigators believe the cyclist provided the false information to draw attention away from himself and his intoxication.
