Dry conditions are believed to be a factor in grass fire Tuesday afternoon at Ridgewood Campground in Plover.

Investigators believed the site was from a brush burn over the winter and recently rekindled. It may seem strange, but dirt, ash and snow can insulate embers and allow fires to smolder for days, weeks or even months.

DNR Ranger Brad Kildow believes that's what happened Tuesday.

Crews from the DNR, Plover Fire Department and UWSP all responded to the fire.
