In this day and age, we willingly hand our credit cards over to many people like hotel receptionists and waiters. The last thing we want to think about is people stealing credit cards or stealing our identity.
They then walk away with our cards and return them. Sometimes though, that’s how fraud happens. The best way to protect yourself against a crime like identity theft, is by just paying attention.
Karl Kelz, district attorney for Taylor County said, “One of the most important things is checking our statements because we use credit cards everyday.”
A vigilant customer is how many identity thieves are caught. Looking at a statement and double checking receipts are all ways to defend yourself. Law enforcement says that if you or someone else has been a victim of fraud, contact your bank or card company immediately to investigate the charges that look suspicious.
