Court: UW Protester's Injunction Must be Refined

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The state Supreme Court says a judge properly issued a restraining order against a frequent University of Wisconsin System protester but he must refine it because it's too broad.

Former UW-Stevens Point student Jeff Decker has long protested the use of student fees at meetings on different campuses. A Madison judge in 2011 granted a Board of Regents request for a restraining order, issuing an injunction that barred Decker from all UW property.

A state appeals court struck down the restraining order last year, ruling Decker was legitimately protesting the fees.

The Supreme Court disagreed, ruling unanimously that Decker's actions amounted to harassment. But the court said the restraining order is vague and sent it back to the circuit court to narrow it.

Decker's attorney had no immediate comment.
