It was a race like no other today in Rhinelander as people got to enjoy the sights of downtown without ever having to leave their couches.
The YMCA of the Northwoods payed homage to couch potatoes everywhere as teams sped through downtown using a most unique vehicle.
It is the kind of race most people have never seen before.
"The YMCA was thinking what can we do with potatoes? So, we felt a couch potato race was the most appropriate." said YMCA Director Laurie Schlitt
People take their couch designs seriously. The guys from Rhinelander GM decided to go with a Duck Dynasty theme. They are confident, to say the least, in their couch pushing abilities.
"We understand that their are quite a few people in the Rhinelander area that decided they want to get beat today, so we decided to get our group together. " Joked runner Brian Roth
As people who know automobiles, it is no doubt that they feel their expertise gave them a leg up on the competition.
"We had no problem sending our best mechanics on this couch job." Roth said.
About ten teams competed in this year's race.
Prizes were given for both the fastest time as well as most unique couch.
