Crimestoppers and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department are asking for the public's help find the person responsible for stealing nearly $1,000 worth of telephone wire from the Town of Schley, which is northeast of Merrill.
According to the Sheriff's Department, on Thursday, an employee of Frontier Communications reported said phone subscribers in the area of State Rd 17 and Leck’s Lane were complaining after their phones stopped working.
When a repair tech went to the area he discovered 700 feet of cable which had been laying on the ground waiting to be buried had been cut and stolen. Due to the high price of copper, theft cases like this are on the rise.
Frontier believes the cable was stolen sometime late Wednesday night 4/17/2013 and early Thursday morning.
If you have any information on this theft or saw any suspicious activity in the area you are asked to call the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at 715-536-6272 or call Crime Stoppers of Lincoln County at 715-536-3726.
Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
