After having experienced at least three seperate shooting incidents in the past several months, many residents on Wausau's west side are concerned about safety.

The most recent incident happened early Monday morning. Police responded to calls of shots fired near 10th Avenue and Bridge St. in what appears to have been a robbery attempt.

While the Wausau Police Department says that citizens are safe, Wausau Mayor Jim Tipple also points out that citizens are often the first line of defense when it comes to preventing crimes from happening in the first place.

"We can't be every place at every moment of the week or month or year. So, we ask the residents and have constant interaction with them that they can be our eyes and ears in the neighborhood. If they see any suspicious activity or something that doesn't seem right, they should call the police department" Tipple said.

The Wausau Police Department says that they have no reason to believe that the three recent incidents are connected.
